Biden to Pick FDA Veteran Robert Califf to Lead the Agency as Deadline Nears

WASHINGTON—President Joe Biden is likely to nominate former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Robert Califf to lead the agency again, Politico reported on Thursday. Mr. Califf previously served as commissioner for nearly a year in President Obama's second administration.

Statement from Jaydee Hanson, Policy Director at Center for Food Safety:

"We welcome President Biden's potential nomination of Robert Califf as commissioner of the FDA during these unprecedented times. We urge Mr. Califf to rigorously defend safe food and ban harmful food contact substances, such as PFAS and phthalates. We also expect him to strengthen FDA's oversight of genetically engineered animals and finalize the environmental and endangered species reviews of genetically engineered salmon as required by the court."
