The Center for Food Safety today launched a new campaign website, www.ge-fish.org, focused on the pending approval and labeling of genetically engineered salmon, the first GE animal intended for human consumption. The website comes one week before the FDA’s scheduled public hearing on the approval of AquaBounty’s AquaAdvantage, GE Atlantic salmon.
CFS’s new website has educational materials, actions for consumers and companies, incuding chefs and restaurants, and a section containing scientific articles on the GE salmon and other GE fish. If approved, genetically engineered salmon would be the first “transgenic” animal allowed into the U.S. food supply. And what’s worse, it’s unlikely that it would have to be labeled, so consumers might not even know they’re eating it. Check out our new website and learn how you can get involved in the campaign!
